First Impressions Count! Make Your Business Website Attractive to Users
It’s important to get your key messages to your website visitors in those first moments. Visitors often spend five seconds on your website to see if you meet their intent based needs.
In today’s always connected world, attention spans are notoriously fickle. If visitors cannot find what they’re looking for, they will go elsewhere.
Here’s a few tips to make your website attractive to users and find what they need.
Easy to find information
A clear and simple direction to the content that matters is vital. Stick to around 2-3 key actions – these are your calls to action (CTA). When determining which CTA works best on your website pages, think about the customer.
If they are reading a service page, what next steps might they take? They may wish to read about other services, read testimonials or contact you. Provide these as highly visible elements to increase interest, enquires and sales.
Make your values clear
Once a visitor finds your website online, you need to provide the value you offer within your content. Your customers are looking for reasons why you are better value to them over your competition. Your value proposition should be one of the first items you address within the page content.
As a Business to Business (B2B) or Business to Consumer (B2C) website, consider having one or more of the following:
- Customer testimonials – your best advocates are those who have done business with you
- Case studies – outline the problem, the solution and the outcomes on each
- Ecommerce values – free shipping offers, membership benefits, email offers
- Social proof numbers – number of downloads, registered users, etc.
Keep your content current
It pays to keep your website content up-to-date. Not only is this good for potential visitors, it helps improve your website in search results.
If you have content you can add to your website over time, add it! Extra content offers greater information and value to your visitors. It also helps increase the authority you have in your industry.
If you have regular information updates, consider a news or blog section on your website. If you choose to add these, be sure to keep it active. Posting at least once a month with news or blog post helps increase more traffic to your website. Be sure not to post too much as well, as this can work against you. Test what works best for you, but aim for 1-2 news or blog content updates a month.
Search engines like Google love content that is new or often updated, which helps with Search Engine Optimisation (or SEO for short). Content is the main element Google uses to rank your website, so be sure to offer more when you can. It looks at your content in high regards if you write it for your visitors and not search engines!
